Campaigners in Turkey did media outreach on 1 August. They also will engage with Nesim Öner, a Turkish athlete who is also a mine victim who lost one of his legs and his eyes in a mine explosion. Nesim has been involved in the campaign in the past and campaigners in Turkey plan to work with him throughout the “Join the Team” campaign. Nesim lives in Diyarbakır and is a member of Visually Impaired Sports Club. In May the club organized a race where all participants wore “ban cluster bombs” t-shirts.
