COUNTDOWN TO ENTRY INTO FORCE

On Friday 22 July JASMAR Human Security organization & Sudan Athletics Association organised a marathon for people with disabilities under the auspices of Mr. Osama Wanasi, the Minister of Youth & Sport of Khartoum State.  25 landmines survivors and people with disabilities, including two women participated in the race in Khartoum.  Participants represented government related authorities, media, NGOs, INGOs, UNMAO, Sudan CBL and the public.  The race started from the police headquarters and went through Gamaa Street and ended at Martyrs Garden.  A celebration took place in the garden after the race where speeches were delivered by the JASMAR general manager, the Sudan ICBL-CMC coordinator, the chair of the Athletics Association and the chair of the Disabilities Sport Association.  At the end of the celebration prizes were awarded to the winners of the race.  On 1 August, JASMAR in its premises hosted a consultation workshop on the Convention on Cluster Munitions.

Articles on the first anniversary of the Convention on Cluster Munitions’ entry into force celebration were published in daily newspapers, the Sudan News Agency and on Sudan national TV.
