COUNTDOWN TO ENTRY INTO FORCE
On 1st August WANEP Gambia in partnership with the Gambia Federation of the Disabled celebrated the first anniversary of entry into force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions. Two sporting activities were organized – a wheelchair basketball game and a goal ball game for the visually impaired. Present at the sporting event were the Permanent Secretary of Defence, representatives from the Ministries of Interior and Social Welfare. The Permanent Secretary in his remarks mentioned that a draft Bill on the ratification of the Convention has been prepared and will be submitted to Cabinet shortly, he further congratulated the Gambia Federation of the Disabled for joining the team and mentioned the commitment of the Gambia Government in the Cluster Munitions Process. Remarks were also made by the president of the Federation, Mr Corrah and the National Network Coordinator of WANEP Ms Pamela Cole. The day ended with the presentation of trophies to each winning team.
