COUNTDOWN TO ENTRY INTO FORCE
On 30 July the Norwegian MFA issued a press statement welcoming entry into force of the CCM. On 1 August, entry into force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions was celebrated at Norway Cup, which is the world’s largest football tournament for youth. Approximately 30,000 football players aged 12-19 years old from around 50 nations gathered in Oslo from 1-7 August. The event focused on cluster munitions throughout the week. Many of the young football players took part in a drumming activity on 1 August. The messages were about how cluster munitions affect civilians and how cluster munitions are cleared. This group of youth were able to return home to push their countries to ratify, accede and implement the treaty. This event was planned and organised by NPA. The State Secretary Gry Larsen attended the event and gave a short speech.
