COUNTDOWN TO ENTRY INTO FORCE

Democratic Republic of Congo

A drumming activity took place in Kinshasa held by the Congolese Campaign to Ban Landmines (CCBL) and the National Association of Survivors and of the Defence of Victims (NASDRV). On 1 August there was a broadcast on entry into force and a press release issued. Lobbying actions were also carried out in order to push government to ratify. This involved giving information about the 1MSP to the MFA, which then sent a letter to the Permanent Representative of the DRC in Geneva, Ambassador Mindua Kesia Mbe, requesting her attendance at the event. CCBL also met with the Legal Advisor to the MFA, who said that the ratification is now on the Prime Minister’s formal agenda. An advocacy event by CCBL and NASDRV was also arranged to take place on 30 October, called “On the Road to Vientiane”, where key decision makers will be urged to give an update on the ratification of the Convention and preparations for the 1MSP.
